Drinking Cacao (Hot Chocolate) Recipe

This decadent drink is perfect for long winter evenings.  Cacao is a bean and the precursor to cocoa and chocolate.  Raw and unprocessed, cacao is ultra rich in antioxidants and phytonutrients!

When I’m especially cold or in need of a little extra soul nourishment I want a warm beverage to hold in my hands that’s got more body to it than an herbal tea. This drinking chocolate provides lots of love and pleasure without any of the processed dairy or refined sugar guilt. There’s no reason to feel concern about desiring heartier, richer foods at this time of year. The turning of the seasons calls for it.  Just make sure they are still clean and nutrient dense!

Ingredients:

2 c. California Farms toasted coconut almond milk
(I love this exact brand and variety because of the unusual sweetness simply from the toasted coconut – no added sugars!)

3-4 T. Coconut sugar

1/4 c. Raw cacao or cocoa powder

1 tsp. Pure vanilla

1/4 tsp. Sea salt

1 oz. dark chocolate (70% or higher)

Whisk all ingredients together and melt over low heat. Simmer until hot to taste. Pour and serve! Best enjoyed by firelight or low lamplight under cozy blankets while sharing heart conversation with a good friend.
